  1. Japan near–fatal depressurization incident

    June 30, 2025:

A Spring Japan/Boeing 737 flight from Shanghai to Tokyo suddenly lost cabin pressure, descending ~25,000 ft in 10 minutes.

Passengers were unconscious or panicking as oxygen masks dropped, with many fearing for their lives

Though there were no injuries, the incident triggered an investigation and renewed concern about Boeing’s cabin-pressurization systems.

3. Problems in the way Boeing builds planes

  • Boeing factories have been found making serious mistakes — like forgetting to install bolts that hold airplane doors in place.

  • There have been metal shavings near important wires and parts not being cleaned properly, which can cause big safety issues.

  • Workers and whistleblowers have said they were rushed to finish work and sometimes told to hide problems to avoid delays.

  • Investigators found that managers and engineers weren’t working together, and many employees were afraid to report safety issues.

4. Government punishment and investigations

  • The U.S. government has fined Boeing over $1 billion for hiding safety problems.
  • Boeing had to reduce how many planes it makes each month until it fixes its quality and safety checks.

  • The FAA (which oversees airplane safety) and Congress are keeping a close eye and asking Boeing to change how it builds and tests planes.

5. A broken company culture

  • Boeing used to focus on safety and good engineering — but now it’s accused of caring more about money and speed than about safety.

  • Some employees say they were punished for speaking up about dangerous mistakes.

  • Even though Boeing promises to do better and train workers more, trust in the company has gone down because of so many repeated problems.
